Character: Saki Konishi
Fandom: Persona 4

Personality: Within her own canon, Saki is a bit of an enigma. From Yosuke, the audience hears of a kind, hardworking -- if a bit gloomy -- girl; the first person to befriend him in Inaba. The testimonials of others don't prove quite as kind, however. Her brother tells of her playing mischievous pranks and stealing his food; Those Two Guys Girls from Junes tell of her talking less than kindly about Yosuke behind his back and running off with a college-aged boyfriend for a summer; Mitsuo Kubo refers to as "the Konishi bitch"; Morooka lauds her promiscuity and fickle nature for being the reason for her death.

Such contradictions. So, who is Saki?

Really, she's all of these things -- and a fair bit more. Clever and somewhat disdainful of the concept of the "high road", she has no qualms about using what she has to get what she wants. And while her wants are many, her resources are significantly less. With a short fuse, a terrible temper, and an inability to keep her mouth shut, it's easy to see how she could get herself into trouble. She's not the most beautiful girl at the ball, but she endeavours to make up for it with charm and a silver tongue... assuming you're worth it, that is, or if there's something you can offer her. If not, you'll see the full brunt of her tempestuousness; she's not called a bitch for no reason. Quick-minded but lazy, Saki doesn't shy away from hardwork... but she is much happier when she can get other people to do it for her.

She loves to fluster people, to play pranks, to troll. She has no hesitation at laughing when she thinks something is funny, social decorum be damned -- so if you do something embarrassing in front of her, don't get pissy when she's rolling on the floor.

With a heavy hatred toward feeling trapped in any situation, Saki has difficulty staying in one place. Having felt like she was suffocating in Inaba, leaving had been her single priority for as long as she could conceive of it. This will have only amplified since Adachi, the interrogation room, and the bizarre world one the other side television -- being found means being caught, so hopefully you don't mind if she slips away quietly when you're not looking. Get too close into her space, invade her bubble, force your way into her life, and she will turn tail and run. Sorry. It's you, not her.

See above, re: relationship with her family. Naoki aside, Saki carries a heavy amount of guilt -- and a thin veneer of bitterness and teenage petulance to cover it up. After all, they were the ones who insisted she take over the shop, forget about dreams of university and leaving Inaba. She doesn't owe them anything, which is why she doesn't feel bad when she runs off with the boyfriend they don't approve of or takes a job at the megamart running their small, family-run store out of business and into bankruptcy. None of it is her fault, not at all. This is another example of the self-centred attempt at gratification, a wide lie she tells herself so she can sleep at night.

She also has a very potent Big Sister complex. In troubling times, Saki grows solemn and withdraws into herself, covering up her troubles with feigned smiles and pretty lies. She's been doing this ever since Naoki was a child, because he's cried over her being sad exactly once and it wasn't something she ever wished to see again. So if you're a kind, retiring boy with a prickly side between the age of twelve and sixteen, don't be surprised if you get adopted by Nee-san here.

Her year in Demeleier has changed her somewhat. Her insatiable lust for freedom has changed, the often unwanted "home" now part and parcel of that. Death has not sat well with her. Everything she's lost is in sharp awareness, and she feels more trapped than ever.

History: Here.

She arrived in Demeleier last January, more than a little addled. Yosuke was the one who came and got her, along with Duibhin (and his dinosaur?). For the first month or so, she got to know the place in relative quiet, not talking to or interacting with anyone. Slowly, she adjusted to the place and the people - even eventually moving out of the Inn and into a croft of her own.

She became close to Sheik, first out of a novel sense of curiousity and then out of a growing, alien sense of trust. When she encountered Adachi, it was Sheik that kept her from being grievously injured or possibly disfigured by the man in a fit of anger. Later, when Link, Thereth and Sheik all fell under a sleeping spell in the forest, Adachi presented Saki with an offer, to assure the safety of the person she had come to care for. She accepted, at great emotional strain and turmoil - and set off a chain of events that eventually led to the death of three.

Despite her general lack of affection for Twilight Princess' Zelda, Saki befriended the Ocarina of Time incarnation, finding her easier company than most. Souji was someone else Saki learned to relax around, only crossing that bridge after Adachi's betrayal and rampage. And really, a shared love of food helps. Toward Valeria, Saki wavered between tolerance and disdain - while the woman was a decent leader, Saki also found her to be condescending and dismissive, not realising the weight on her shoulders was far greater than Saki's own.

She also made many attempts to salvage her relationship with Yosuke. Despite not considering him a friend, Saki saw him as the one familiar thing from her world, and wasn't shy about seeking out his company. Staying in his company for longer than five minutes, on the other hand, was the difficult part. This came to head numerous times without making any real progress. Eventually, a particularly observant Fae decided to marry them together during the Halloween ball.

Shortly after that, Saki vanished for a time.

Timeline: From Persona 4, post-death. But since this is a re-app, she'll come from the last time she was in Demeleier, with memories.

Abilities: None to speak of. Decent at impressions, can hold her alcohol, a good enough cook. Nothing supernatural or out of the ordinary.

Inventory: Presumably, she'll have what she disappeared with. The clothes on her back, the rowan crown and links of iron, and a brass marriage ring on her left hand.

Sample writing: (Reusing the old sample.)

It's a familiar scene, one she relives on a daily basis; the one that makes her wonder why she bothers to get out of bed in the morning.

But it's no less than she deserves. There's nothing about this that she didn't choose. She could have been the good daughter, do all her homework, in bed by eleven, smile and say, "Yes, Father," when confronted with the demand that she take over the business like the good eldest child they wanted.

She chose to be herself, instead.

So when a familiar voice comes over her shoulder, she can still put on that same tight smile and say, "What's up, Hana-chan."

Maybe this time she can direct the subject toward that raise...

Sample journal entry: [Saki crosses her arms, turns her head toward the dim sun as it creeps up, behind the frosted trees. Her breath is puffy and clouded in the air, only lending further evidence to the cold and further weight to her own annoyance.

She plucks up the communicator, frowning down at it. Then -
]

So, Happy New Year?

[Her tone is flat, unimpressed - with a bit of a crack to the words, should anyone care to listen hard enough.]

Or is it not time for that yet.
